This week, Alison chaired the “Women in Digital” event at Teesside University’s Digital City. Co-organised by students, the event opened up the debate on gender diversity in the digital sector and generated solutions to create a thriving environment for digital business in the North East.
The event, aimed at inspiring women to become involved in the digital industry, attracted dozens of business leaders looking to connect with future talent on Teesside. Natalie Woods, Digital City’s student director, said: “There are not many networking opportunities for students and so we set up the Women in Digital event.”
Facilitated by Alison, a question and answer session was held with a panel of influential speakers consisting of Anna Smith from Tech North, Joanna Wake from Raw Digital, Kate Baucherel from Galia Digital, James Lees from Mabo Media and Dominic Lusardi from Animmersion.
“The general consensus of the panellists and the audience was that a gender balanced business environment benefits the growing digital sector,” Alison concluded. “Gender diversity needs to become a business commitment, inspiring 13-22 year olds and women returners alike. It will increase economic performance and success of the region and ensure our best digital talent thrives in the region.”
